Margot Jones Margot Jones, Owner
Margot Jones established the Purple Onion Catering Co. in 1990, from a true love of cooking and a commitment toward making the special events in people's lives unforgettable. Infusing her own standards of quality, imagination and commitment to perfection, Margot's leadership has allowed
the Purple Onion Catering Co. to flourish through the years. Also realizing the importance of professional development, Margot is an active member of the International Caterers Association.

David Jones David Jones, Owner
Dave’s experience managing projects and implementing systems has been key to the growth of Purple Onion. Since the formation of the company he has structured the necessary procedures and programs to allow Margot to drive the company toward culinary excellence. He has implemented an infrastructure that provides enough control, but allows flexibility during difficult economic times. During this period the company has grown 1,110%. Through implementing new technology, he has been able improve the effectiveness of the sales team and operations department. To prepare for the future growth of the company, he oversaw the purchase and buildout of the company’s current facility located in the metropolitan DC area.

He graduated from George Mason University 1988 with a bachelor of arts degree.

Kyle Gragasin, Executive Chef
Kyle Gragasin joined Purple Onion Catering Co. as our Sous Chef in 2011 after studying at the Culinary Institute of America. There, he held many internships including positions working under certified Master Chef Fritz Gitschner and celebrity chef Roberto Donna. After graduating and returning home to the D.C. area, this young talent spent three years practicing his craft and cultivating his culinary prowess. When Kyle joined Purple Onion, it was clear that the combination of his broad pallet and creative approach would make for innovative and fresh culinary concepts. As executive chef, he brings an endless supply of passion to his daily work and has become an integral part of our operations and success.

Joanie Rylander

Joanie Rylander, Senior Event Designer
Joanie Rylander joined Purple Onion Catering Co. in October of 2009. Earning her Business Marketing degree in 2002, she began her career as a meeting planner in Washington, DC. After 6 years as a meeting planner she realized her true passion for special events and made the transition to off-premise catering. She has a flair for creating personalized menus and an atmosphere for in which people can savor their experiences without worries or distractions. Joanie’s passion, enthusiasm, creativity and dedication to detail will ensure that your events have a lasting impression on your guests.

Margaret Zagrodniczek, Event Designer
Margaret Zagrodniczek joined Purple Onion Catering in August of 2013. She is a local to the area earning both her Bachelor’s of Arts and Master’s at George Mason University. She began her career in birthday parties, events and design over 15 years ago. She specializes in creating the style and flair that her clients envision for their event. Margaret will bring to life the vision of her client whether it’s her corporate clients or a small intimate social event or large party/wedding.

Katy Almond-Martinez  

Katy Almond-Martinez, Event Designer
Katy joined the Purple Onion Catering Co. in the beginning of 2012. She came to Purple Onion from New York where she worked as an event coordinator for an off-premise catering company. Being from Manhattan, she enjoys the fast paced speed of the catering industry. When it comes to events Katy offers each client the perfect balance of passion and professionalism. Katy’s specialty is working with trend setting brides at new venues ranging from manor houses to shabby chic barns. With an outgoing nature and attention to detail she works with her clients to create memorable events that leave a lasting impression.

Paige Bryan  

Paige Bryan, Event Designer
Paige Bryan joined Purple Onion Catering Co. in June of 2013. After growing up locally, she stayed loyal to Virginia and attended Radford University where she earned her Bachelors Degree in Interior Design and a minor in Marketing in 2011. For the next three years, she developed her passion for the industry working for Syzygy Events which specializes in high-end events. Her bubbly personality and persistent drive make her an asset to our team. One of her main goals is ensuring her client experiences total satisfaction with their event, feeling as though everything they envisioned was brought to life! Her dynamic personality allows her to execute planning smoothly and to be a joy to work with.

Lauren Forman  

Lauren Forman, Event Designer
Lauren Forman joined Purple Onion Catering Co. in September of 2013. Having earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Hospitality Management from Lynn University, Lauren was more than prepared to begin her career in the events industry after graduation. With several internships at event companies and a year with Creative Parties under her belt, she came to us ready to hit the ground running. Her easy-going attitude puts clients at ease and allows for them to enjoy the planning process stress free. Lauren’s vision is to create elegantly simplistic events, meeting the clients’ expectation without overcomplicating the process!

Monica Hufnagel

Monica Dean, Operations Director
Monica Hufnagel joined Purple Onion Catering Co. in 1993. Equipped with over 23 years in the food service industry, Monica has been a tremendous asset to the team as well as to the client. Taking an active role in the planning process, Monica guarantees the highest level of customer service and satisfaction.Her strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills and patience will be sure to make your event unforgettable.
